Geographical Analysis of the Level of Environmental Awareness among Geography Students in Urban and Rural Areas: An Applied Study on Students of the Geography Department at the Faculties of Education, Nasser and Al-Zawiya University

Abstract

The study aimed to know the level of environmental awareness among students of the Faculties of Education at the University of Zawiya and its relationship to the variables of residence, gender and college. To achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire was prepared, the validity and reliability of which were verified using scientific methods. The study community consisted of all students of the Department of Geography at the Faculties of Education, Zawiya and Nasser Education at the University of Zawiya, in the first semester of the academic year (2024/2025), numbering (44) male and female students. The study sample amounted to (44) male and female students, and was selected using the comprehensive survey method. The results of the study indicated that the level of environmental awareness among students was average, with a percentage of less than 70%. The results also showed that there were statistically significant differences at a significance level (α=0.05) in the level of environmental awareness attributed to the gender variable, in favor of males. There were also statistically significant differences at a significance level (α=0.05) in the level of environmental awareness attributed to the college variable, in favor of the College of Soil, Al-Zawiya. In light of the results, recommendations were made, the most important of which were activating field studies for all educational programs in geography departments, working on student participation in seminars and workshops in colleges, and producing environmental educational videos.
